Artie and the Grime Wave

Author(s): Richard Roxburgh

Middle Fiction (Reading Age 10-13 years)

Artie and his best friend Bumshoe have stumbled upon a Cave-of-Possibly-Stolen-Stuff, and along with it a gang of shady characters including scary Mary, fang-toothed Funnel-web and the devious Mayor Grime...

Meanwhile, Artie's next-door neighbour Gladys's beloved tortoise Gareth has gone missing...and Artie suspects the cave has something to do with it...

Artie and Bumshoe's attempt to catch the criminals in the act leads to a chaotic chain of events that involves kidnapping, puppy-dog cutlets, modern art and pioneering the sport of the bungee-wedgie...

It's a sticky situation and if Artie's going to escape he might need help from family, friends and a little old lady with a bizarre inventory of weapons - including the Fartex 120Y.

The Northern Beaches continues to inspire creative output, with actor Richard Roxburgh turning his hand to fiction with the October release of an adventure story for readers 8+

In a year when a number of Australian actors have turned their hand to writing, Roxburgh's debut novel uncovers a literary, and artistic, talent. Artie and his best mate Bumshoe spend lazy days cycling around their small town until one day their lives are turned upside down when they discover a secret cave full of allegedly stolen items. The town mayor is obviously up to no good, but then everyone's a special shade of crazy and the boys have a job on their hand outwitting these characters to put everything right.

Given the massive popularity of David Walliams' novels, it's very encouraging that the talent of Richard Roxburgh has been untapped, giving Australian readers experiences and characters to which and whom they can relate.
